Toni with an “I” (because she’s a girl beagle and she gets quite particular)-- came to Midwest BREW from a breeder in southern Illinois a few weeks ago. She’s a smaller beagle who weighs about 20 lbs. She’s mostly brown and is considered a blue tick, which means she has lots of cute spots and speckles. Her fur is short and super soft. She’s lost a little weight since she’s been with us with regular exercise and room to play. Toni ended up at the vet quickly after we got her for a full medical work up. She was spayed and had a dental, which required several extractions and this girl bounced back like a champ. I was amazed at how quickly she recovered and how easy she was to take care of. She didn’t even need a cone because she was so good!

Our sweet girl is still learning the ropes in our house and tends to follow the lead of our other pups. She follows them outside for potty time and gets excited with them at meal-time. She gets along well with other dogs too including the resident alpha female. She is just beginning to look for toys (ropes seem to be her favorite) and seems more curious about her surroundings every day. She is settling in really well considering the short amount of time we have had her.   While she loves walks, new situations still frighten her so she needs coaxing into her harness and carried outside. Once she realizes it’s walk time, however, she is ready to go. She LOVES to explore. She is sniffy and curious and will break into little runs in her excitement. She walks well on a leash and progressed quickly from a block to a mile.

Toni is a little nervous around new situations. She still gets frightened by noises she’s not used to.   You can tell she is afraid when she drops to the ground on her belly and stays still. She’s not really snuggly yet, but she follows us around and likes to sleep in the same room with us. We hear her voice rarely-it almost sounds rusty from underuse and she only uses it when she’s a little anxious.   She loves other dogs and seems to make friends with every dog she meets.

Note: Toni has been super easy and is really loveable. She’ll just need some time and patience to come out of her shell.
