“Hi! I’m Winston. Let me guess. You’re here because you need a little more beagle in your life. Well luckily for you, I’m ready and at your service! Take me home, and I promise that I will be the very best beagle I can be. Do you like walks? I love walks! How about playing fetch? Me too! And...snuggles? Really? We are so on the same page! I think that this may be the start of a beautiful friendship.”

Quick facts:

Winston is a handsome chocolate tricolor beagle, approximately eight to nine years old. He is neutered, 25 lbs, and a bit over 15.5” at the shoulder. He gets along well with dogs he knows, but chases cats. He is good with gentle children age 7+. Winston is housebroken and is working on crate training. As long as he gets adequate exercise, he does not need a fenced yard.

Winston has been in foster care since September 2017. Up to that point, he had lived in an outdoor pen except when taken out for hunting. He came to us several pounds underweight, flea infested, and filthy. Amazingly, other than being underweight and a little anemic, he got a clean bill of health, and with a little time, lots of good food, and tons of love, he’s blossomed into a healthy, lovely dog. He’s enjoying his early retirement from hunting, and thinks that this life as an indoor companion dog is pretty great.

Winston is a velcro beagle! His favorite thing is to be with his people. While Winston is a mature beagle, he still loves to play, go for long walks, and run off leash at the dog park. If you’re looking for a dog who will be happy to join you for a jog, then come home and settle down for a nice long nap, Winston is your guy.

Winston learns quickly. Before he was in foster care he had never lived inside or had any obedience training, but he has made great progress in a short time. While he still puts his paws on the kitchen counters (or on his favorite people) sometimes, he’s figuring out that sitting patiently is the way to get what he wants. He is working on crate training, but Winston has been fine uncrated while his family is at work. In new settings, he may try to mark at first, but keeping him on leash while he has a chance to check things out reminds him that leg lifting is an outdoors-only activity. Winston would love a forever home for the holidays. If you’ve got a beagle-sized space in your life, consider making him part of your family. He’s ready to be your new best friend!
