April is a loving tri-color girl of approximately one year old.  She instantly made herself at home with her foster family's dogs and cats and is happiest with another similar sized dog to snuggle with  - that is, if a human lap is unavailable!

Yes, she loves to be with people and will let you know that she thinks you should be paying attention to her.  She will gently whine until you take notice of her but is learning that this isn't rewarded in her foster's home and quiets down within a few minutes and then gets attention and snuggles.

April happily shares her foster mom's lap with the family cat, sleeping lazily together for hours in the evening. During the daytime she may try to play with cats but can be easily distracted.

April should have a fenced yard. She goes into beagle hunting pose, even adding an adorable point sometimes, when she sees a bunny bounding across the yard on the other side of the fence.  So far she's not much of a barker inside or outside even when the other dogs bark.  The most she's let out are one or two short barks, but this may change as time progresses.

Although she whines a bit when she goes into her crate, she quickly settles down to enjoy her treats.  April eats breakfast and dinner in her crate as well, and happily goes in there for her meals.

And she potties on lead!

And she is house trained! Yay, April!

Because her foster dog pals are toy destroyers, April hasn't had much of an opportunity to play with toys but does like them. She tried to shoplift a stuffed alligator and a stuffed chicken at the pet store, but Foster Mom explained to her that she'd have to wait for her forever family to shower her with playthings because the alligator and the chicken wouldn't survive at the foster family house.

April currently has yeast infections in both ears and was treated on 05/13 with an antibiotic that should work for 2-3 weeks.  The adopter will need to get a recheck and her vaccine booster the week of 05/30 - 06/03.

Lastly, April was found to have luxating patellas bilaterally which the veterinarian suggested could  have no adverse effects as she matures, or may need further examination down the road. She does not appear bothered by them and happily walks on leash without incident.

April's both a Looker and a Lover.  The vet assistant was smitten and inquired on how to adopt her.  At the pet store, a 40 year-old biker dude exclaimed,  "Awww, look at that cute puppy!" from two aisles away. April greets everyone with a very, very happy tail wag that sometimes turns into a complete bum wag. If you're looking for a sweet snuggler who is content to be low dog on the totem pole,  April may be the girl for you!

NOTE: Dogs may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).
